FLC cycling is not long a club sport

FLC cycling is shedding its club sport status and becoming part of the athletic department of FLC. January 1 the college cycling program will become part of Fort Lewis College athletic department. Mitch Davis, FLC public affairs officer, announced the organizational change this week. “given the cycling team’s tremendous national success and the extensive commitment Fort Lewis College has made to the team, the decision was reached that it was more appropriate that the athletic department oversee the program,” The team is going to be unique with in the Fort Lewis athletic department because it is not under NCAA sports it is under USA Cycling. The major responsibility of the athletic department is to be overseeing the cycling budget and administration. The cycling team receives students-fee funding along with general funding. The FLC cycling team has won 11 national championships in the last decade and I believe that that this is going to just help the team so much.

Final Presentation

The final presentation for my mass communication was on YouTube.com. I believe that the final presentation was hard for me to think of a good idea and I was finally able to come up with YouTube. I come up with YouTube because I was thinking about something that we had used in class a lot and the first thing that came to my mind was YouTube. I though that this would be a good idea because I was think that almost everyone would be using YouTube in all of there presentation and I was right, if I am correct I have seen everyone use YouTube in there own presentation. In my research I had very fun time learning about YouTube and learning how fast they grow in such a short time. I wanted to do something different and not do a power point because I was thinking everyone was going to do a power point. Looking back on it I wish that I had done a power point because it would have made it a lot easier for me to organize the presentation. The power point would have helped me make sure that I would not forget any of the information that I wanted to present to the class. I feel like there is a lot that I miss and want to present in my presentation. That project was a very good one for me to do and I believe for the rest of the class. It was a fun one to do and I have learned a lot from everyone presentation.

Election Experience

Today was the first time that I have ever voted as I am 20 years old. I voted at Needham Elementary School and the experience was very easy to do and did not take that long to complete at all. One of the harder thing to do in voting was the amendments because the wording is very hard to understand at lest for me. I had a cheat sheet that I took to the voting place to help me with everything. The cheat sheet made it a lot easy to fallow everything. The people where very helpfully and made everything run very smoothly. I then went to Starbucks to get my free coffee with my “I voted” sticker on. I am looking forwards to watching the end result on T.V. tonight.

Free Stuff for Voting! How about a Felony?

If you vote in the 2008 election for our 44th president, you are eligible to get free stuff. Starbucks, Ben and Jerry’s, and Krispy Kreme are giving away food if you vote. For Starbucks you get a free coffee if you just say that you voted. For Krispy Kreme you just need to wear an “I voted” sticker for your free donut and for Ben and Jerry’s you just need to show up for your free ice creams. But what about you’re Felony? Take the State of Georgia where the motto is “Wisdom, Justice and Moderation.” If you requiring someone to say they voted in order to receive a free coffee, which is a felony. The law in Georgia states “Any person who gives or receives, or offers to give or receive, or participates in the giving or receiving of money or gifts for the purpose of registering as a voter, voting, or voting for a particular candidate in any primary or election shall be guilty of a felony.” But no worries the company have modified the promotions so that they are legal. So get out and vote for your free stuff.

In the United States there has been 32 salmonella illnesses reported in 12 states. All of the reports have been caused from uncooked chicken manly in frozen dishes for microwave ovens. Most of the chicken in these dishes is uncooked raw chick that is pre-browned, so it gives that appearance of pre-cooked chicken like “chicken cordon blue” or “chicken kiev”. USDA said that all of the cases in which people become ill were because they did not fallow the proper cooking instructions on the back of the frozen dinners. They cooked the dishes in a microwave oven when the dish did not provide cooking direction for a microwave. Microwaving the chicken dinner did not cook the chicken to a proper temperature to kill the salmonella. To kill salmonella you need to cook chicken to at least an internal of 165 degree Fahrenheit.

This is really cool. The Elephants at the Houston zoo lend a helping hand in the clean up after Hurricane Ike. The Elephants a the zoo waited out the storm with select zoo keepers that the Elephants had a bond with. When the clean up started, the Elephants would use there trunks to move the big branches to a pile of debris. It was really good exercise for the Elephant. After a year of retirement he has deiced to come back and race the famous Tour de France and go for his 8th time winning the event. The reason that Lance says that he is returning to the sport of professional road cycling is because he want to raise the awareness of the global cancer burden. Lance will be turning 37 years old in the next month and he believes that it will not be a factor. Lance says “Looking at the Olympics, you have a swimmer like Dara Torres. Even in the 50m event (freestyle), the 41-year-old mother proved you can do it. The woman who won the marathon (Constantina Tomescu-Dita, of Romania) was 38. Older athletes are performing very well. Ask serious sports physiologists and they’ll tell you age is a wives’ tale” The main goal that Lance has in mind with his return to cycling is to spread his message of cancer. With his training Lance is dong a first time thing, her is going to be completely open with the press and show them his training regiment so that this is no possible way to cheat.
